Rememberance Sunday

I went out to the remembrance Garden on Sunday. I go there most Sundays, its one of the nicest and quietist places in Chester.

There was a service to commemorate those who had given their lives for freedom, both past and present.

I’m not big on sentiment, but I am only able to write whatever I like on this blog, because of their sacrifice.

As modern trends come and go, and one fad, seemingly replaces another one, its nice to see so many young people wearing Poppy’s proudly.

Akon, ace music, but questionable ethics.

Lately, I’ve been listing to the new album by Akon.

I know some of my “purist” music loving friends, might not approve, but I quite like it, and I find that its played on my IPod more than any other music.

In one particular track, called Freedom, he talks about his father coming down from the hills in Senegal west Africa in search of freedom and a new life in America.

In some of his other songs, he talks about his time in the Ghetto, spending time in Prison and stuff like that.

I was looked up some of his details on the internet. His father is one of the most talented musicians that Africa has ever produced, and he didn’t live in a tribe, tending cattle at all.

In fact, if he did come down from the mountains, he almost certainly did so in a Range Rover, with his publicist sitting in the passenger seat.

More disturbingly, Akon has never served ANY time in prison. According to school reports, his attendance and grades were exceptional.

The question I find myself asking, is what kind of world have we created, where honest people, lie about being criminals to promote their music !.

Anyway, I still listen to the music. I like the way it sounds.

I noticed the other day that the pages for St Petersburg 1 and 2 and Moscow 1 and 2 weren’t working.

Ive fixed them now, if you want to have a look.

Finally, can someone print a copy of this out, and show it to Sean and Mandy, as they don’t have a computer !.

Update

Night Vision scope. Used by Special Forces all over the world, and sold at Aldi.

The good news, is that both phones are working fine now, number ending 320 is the one I normally use.

Ive changed my mind. The blog isn’t being discontinued after Capetown (thanks to all of you, who emailed in, and said I should keep it going.)

Old johnnsunter.com is actually working. Its a snapshot of how the original website looked. I know that some people like to look at the pictures of my wedding and stuff like that. By splitting the website, it solves the dilemma. You can look at it, by visiting www.oldjohnsunter.com

finally, in terms of posting comments to blog entries, I have modified the criterion.

If you want to post a reply, you will need to type some characters (so that automated programs, called “bots” can’t post all sorts of rubbish onto the site).

The good news, is that its no longer moderated. I don’t have to authorize your posts, whatever you say, goes straight up there, for other people to read.

Will probably be selling some of my un-needed stuff soon (bushcraft axe, compass, things like that, that I dont use that much).

Ill post a full list later, but if any of you, have a liking to a bit of kit, that Ive got, and want to make me an offer, ill be happy to hear it (Capetown is around the corner, and cash it tight).

Two website Ive been visiting recently (both completely different, but interesting an usefull).

Daily Mash a satirical look at the news (recommended to me by a lad a used to work with called Jason). I cant look at that site, without laughing.

say no to 0870. Recommended by Amelia mum. The basic idea, is that if you need to call say British Gas, they will give you a premium rate number. By looking it up on this site, you can find out the local number, get through to exactly the same people, but save a bit of money as well.

Both of them can be reached by googling.

Two random thoughts occurred to me recently:

1. Why would most ordinary people need a night vision scope ?.

2. If they did, why the hell would they go to Aldi to buy it, and what the hell are Aldi doing selling them anyway !.

Finaly, ever wondered what that sort of Stick and Handerkerchief Rucsack is called, that Dick Whitington used ?. Its actualy called a Bindle (thanks Sean, the local Crossword genuis for that.

Congratulations to Henrik.

Well done, to the excellent Henrik, who has become a father for the 2nd time (I would offer congratulations, from everyone here at johnsunter.com, but since Henrik’s part of that team, it seems a bit silly).

Don’t ask me when, where or what he is shooting in this picture ? (I robbed it from his Facebook profile !).

Once again, well done Henrik (and special congratulations to his partner Claire, who had some involvment with the new baby as well 🙂

Update

Old days at the Firkin, with Craig on the left and Paul Nightingale on the right.

Just a quick update with a few bits and pieces that are going on at the moment (the sort of thing I can do really quick, now that I’m using embedded WordPress).

Pictured above is an old friend,  who moved to Brussels with work a few years ago (he was one of my first friends, here in Chester).

What most people don’t know, is that for at least 5 years, he has been hosting (and paying for) www.johnsunter.com. In that time, he has never asked for any money, asked for adverts to be added or anything like that.

Earlier today, I took over hosting of the domain name.  We had both agreed that I would do this, sooner or later, but the upgrade to johnsunter.com ver 2.0, put this on the immediate Radar.

An unsung hero of this website, who has frequently offered positive feed back and support, I just wanted to say a quick thanks for all his help. As I’ve found over the last 15 difficult months, doom merchants are  outspoken and everywhere, but real supporters and friends are hiding in the woodwork silently, just waiting for the moment you need them.

While the thanks are going around, thought I would say a quick well done to the excellent Henrik, who has helped out with with all kinds of technical things and got the embedded WordPress to work (still a lot to do, but I’ve been talking about upgrading for 3 years and its finally happening).

Also, thanks to everyone who sent me cards for my birthday. I have put them up in my room, and special thanks to my Auntie Marjorie, who sent me an illuminous one, it has kept me a awake for hours :).
